Permafrost Provides a 40ft Solar-powered Container Cold Storage Solution for Fruit and Vegetable Storage in Gambia
With the development of global agricultural supply chains, the demand for cold storage equipment for fresh fruits and vegetables continues to increase.
For some overseas markets, power supply conditions, equipment deployment methods and long-term operation requirements have become important factors when selecting cold chain solutions.
Recently, Permafrost has been advancing a 40ft Solar-powered container cold storage project for the Gambia market. The project is designed for fruit and vegetable storage, combining container structure, refrigeration system and solar power system to provide a flexible agricultural cold storage solution.
The project has now entered the overall assembly stage. The Permafrost team is completing equipment installation and system integration according to the approved design, ensuring the cold storage structure, insulation system, refrigeration equipment and solar system are properly matched.

Developing an Agricultural Cold Storage Solution Based on Customer Requirements
At the beginning of the project, the customer required a cold storage solution suitable for fruit and vegetable storage while considering local energy conditions, transportation requirements and onsite deployment needs.
The customer mainly focused on:
- Cold storage conditions for fresh produce;
- Energy configuration suitable for local conditions;
- Integration between solar power and cold storage equipment;
- Convenient overseas transportation and deployment.
Based on customer requirements, the Permafrost team developed the solution by considering storage requirements, power conditions, transportation methods and actual application environments.
Compared with traditional fixed cold rooms, Solar-powered container cold storage adopts an integrated modular structure that combines storage space, refrigeration systems and energy systems into one equipment unit, making it suitable for overseas transportation and flexible deployment.
The solution can be applied to agricultural storage scenarios including fruit and vegetable storage, post-harvest storage, pre-transport storage and regional cold chain points.
40ft Solar-powered Container Cold Storage Solution
The project adopts a 40ft container structure, integrating insulation system, refrigeration system and solar power system into one complete cold storage solution.
The main configuration includes:
- 100mm polyurethane insulation structure;
- 4P Emerson fully enclosed low-temperature refrigeration unit;
- R404a refrigeration system;
- 380V/50Hz electrical configuration;
- 625W solar panels with supporting inverter system.
The solar system is not used as an independent device but integrated with the cold storage refrigeration system. By combining solar power supply with cold storage operation requirements, the solution provides a more flexible energy option for the project location.

From Solution Confirmation to Equipment Assembly
After order confirmation, the Permafrost project team proceeded with the equipment manufacturing process according to the approved design.
Solar-powered container cold storage projects usually involve several stages:
- Container structure preparation;
- Insulation system production;
- Refrigeration equipment configuration;
- Solar system preparation;
- Overall assembly.
The project has now entered the overall assembly stage. The team is completing cold storage structure installation, insulation connection, refrigeration equipment installation and solar system integration.

After assembly completion, the technical team will conduct factory commissioning and operation testing to check the overall system performance.
The testing process will include:
- Refrigeration system operation;
- Electrical system connections;
- Control system performance;
- Coordination between the solar system and cold storage equipment.
Through factory commissioning and testing, the team can verify system matching and provide support for future overseas transportation, installation and operation.
Overseas Installation Guidance and After-sales Support
For overseas customers, purchasing cold storage equipment requires not only the product itself but also installation and operation support.
For this project, Permafrost will provide:
- Project design drawings;
- Installation guidance materials;
- Video operation tutorials;
- Remote technical support;
- After-sales service support.
Through technical documents and remote assistance, Permafrost helps customers complete installation and operation more smoothly.
